In words, music and video, Fòs a kaz la, la force de ma case au coeur de la cité, recounts the journey of slam artist Myriam Baldus, from the tin hut built by her grandfather on the land of Guadeloupe where she was born, to the concrete of a French housing estate where she grew up. Echoing the life story of Myriam and her grandfather Marcel, video testimonies from Guadeloupean ‘vayan’ tell stories of huts that have been moved or destroyed, abandoned or rebuilt, stories of exodus, exile, solidarity and resistance. In slam poetry and storytelling, to the rhythms of gwo ka and hip hop music, in images and video – from the painted walls of Marcel’s hut to the graffiti of council housing estates – three performers invent a poetic territory where tradition and modernity are reconciled to express – in French and Creole – the dignity of the men and women of the land and of uprooted people.
