Joséphine2b is an educational and artistic project aimed at young audiences. Through dance and music, it tackles environmental issues, with the scandal of the use of chlordecone in West Indian banana plantations, as well as the history of slavery and the struggles of Afro-descendants. In an imaginary Creole garden, the characters also encounter two historical figures: Joséphine de Beauharnais, Napoléon Bonaparte’s first wife and the daughter of a Martinique planter, and Joséphine Baker, an exotic figure from the early 20th century who was also a great campaigner for Afro-descendant rights.

The main aim of the show is to raise young audiences’ awareness of the dynamics of domination. The project is structured around a series of workshops, which for this edition will take place in the morning with a group of children aged 6 and over and their parents. The show’s team will be offering them activities to discuss the issues raised by the show, such as ecology, neo-liberalism and contemporary consumerism, as well as Creole culture and history.
